When out in the open, you can travel to your ship and reload that for a free save. When inside a building after fight you can backtrack and leave to make an auto-save and reload it. Where possible, persuade yourself out of combat and where you can't - take advantage of the environment and abuse your ranged weaponry. Enemies have more health and do more damage, which is why you just want to avoid all that.

The general handicap settings for Supernova are the same as they are on Hard, but with worse repercussions.

The best way to get around this is simply to keep them out of dangerous combat, setting their AI to defensive and letting them hang back and shoot things.

On Supernova, companions who die in combat encounters will not revive.

Your perk points should generally be allocated into health, dialog bonuses, and companion ability cooldowns.

Also, make sure to take advantage of the companion combat skills, so get your Leadership to lvl20 quickly as well. This will make your speed running job significantly easier. Don't forget to increase your skills every time you level up so you end up with 90+ Persuasion, Science and Hacking.
